To-day we played Egypt 20-0 VPs Then Australia 11.5-8.5 VPs and last match Scotland 8-12 VPs.
There was much excitement with our appeal hearing, it was the match against South Africa.

The auction :
North DBL-negative.
This was what happened at the table. David (North) Robert (South). they play 2/1 UDCA.
The contract was 4♠ DBL by West.
The lead was ♣ 10, ace, 3 and 2. ♠ 10, jack, queen and 7. ♠ ace, ♥ 7, 5, king.
Trick 4. West played the ♦ jack, David hesitated then play the ♦ 6 a count card, 2 and the king.
Trick 5. Robert played the ♦ 3, 9, David with the queen, 4.
Trick 6. David (under led from the ♥ ace,) the ♥ 4, declarer guessed to play the jack, lost to the queen.
Robert cashed out and defeated 4 ♠ DBL, 3 tricks for +500.
At the end of the hand, dummy called for the police. The director ruled down 2 because the BIT made it more likely that North would have the ♦ Queen. If Robert had cashed the ♦ ace first then declarer would most likely get the hearts right.
Robert said David had to have the ♦ queen and ♥ ace for the negative double, BIT or not. He also knew there would be a heart guess, decided not to show his hand by cashing out first before putting David in.
We appealed and the hearing was short, no more then a minute. The appeal committee ruled against us and kept the money.
To-morrow we have three more chances for glory. It will be exciting right down to the wire.

With a new day brings fresh hope. Had a nice chat with George at breakfast. I ate, he smoked and read his book.
With 9 matches to play, our mission is to move up a spot each match. That should move us in to top 8 by round 20.
We were on BBO against The Netherlands 8.5-11.5 VPs. Round 14 vs Brazil 20-0 VPs and Round 15 vs South Africa 18.7-1.3. Appeal pending. There a a director ruling against us that could turn 5 imps.

The Poles made short work of this deal.

It is Friday, morning came too early as we started play at 10!
We played Japan 2.28-17.72 VPs. On BBO against France 3.27-16.73. Last match played the host country Indonesia 2.8-17.2.
We took our eye off the ball and got killed. We know we need to pull up our socks from now on.
Went to Nyoman Beer Garden for dinnen, just as the name said the place looked like a beer garden. Great food and the team was in good sprite. Boris was in great form telling jokes. Gave me hope for the morrow.
This deal play by Duboin – Sementa was amazing. They got to the club slam on a 4-3 fit.

It is another beautiful day in Bali. With day break came good news, Boris was having his usual sunny side up eggs with fried onions.
We play Germany on BBO 9.7-10.3 VPs, then Poland 8.2-11.7 and India 6.5-14.5.
Time to step on the gas, the field is gaining.
Round 7. Jurek made an excellent play on board 5 to win 11 imps.
With 7 card ending, Jurek tabled the ♣ queen, when East covered it was all over. Made 11 tricks +450 11imps.
In the close room, declarer in 4♥ in the same position played the ♣ 2, that had no chance and went down one.

At Breakfast Boris told me that he has not been feeling well and best we sit him out for the day.
We play four handed against China Hong Kong 12-8 VPs. Next was Denmark 15-4.8 VPs. Last match we played Belgium 5.6-14 VPs.
Dan and Jurek Vs Denmark bid and made 6♠ to gain 11 IMPs.
Round 5. Board 1. Dealer North. None vulnerable.
2♠ – 5♠ + minor, 6-10.
The lead was King of Clubs, Dan (North) ruffed. played Ace of hearts and a heart. As he needed tricks. Later on played West for the queen of trumps Because in the auction East made a takeout double over North’s two spade opening.
At the end of a long day, I was exhausted, so I can imagine how tired our guys must be after three matches. I am very proud of their performance.

This was our first day of competition, we played Guadeloupe 20-0 VPs. Bangladesh 18-2 VPs and USA 2 14.39-5.61 VPs.

George Mittelman of Toronto, Canada, was born in Europe of Hungarian Parents.
WBF World Master, bridge professional, has won two World Championships, the 1982 Mixed Pairs and the 2002 Senior Teams. Along with a silver medal in the 1995 Bermuda Bowl, Mittelman has also won two bronze medals in the Rosenblum Cup (1982 and 1990).
George Mittelman
He won Richmond Trophy (most points in a year in Canada) 1981, has won more Canadian National Teams Championships than any other player (eight) and has won four North American bridge titles: two Open Swiss Teams (1986, 1995), a Board-a-Match Teams (1998) and a Senior Teams (2006). George has also been Non-Playing Captain of Canada’s Olympiad, Bermuda Bowl and Venice Cup Teams on numerous occasions.

David Lindop of Toronto ON, known to his friends as Mr. Audrey Grant, born in England, business system analyst, graduate of U of Toronto, past president Canadian Bridge Federation. Chairman of 1986 NABC in Toronto, at that time the largest NABC in history. Co-author with wife Audrey Grant of Joy of Bridge and Bridge Maxims; technical editor of the ACBL Club, Diamond, Heart and Spade teaching text; technical editor of Better Bridge newsletter; script writer for ACBL’s video teaching series.

Michael Yuen of Vancouver BC, born in China. Retired from a career in hotel managements, now enjoys life in the slow lane.

Yuen had been active in bridge governance. He served on the ACBL Board of Governors, the District 2 Board of Directors and also long time member of National Charity and Goodwill Committees. He was co-chair of Winnipeg NABC in 1985. A member of the International Bridge Press Association.
A frequent competitor in international tournaments. NPC and coach of national teams at World Championships on numerous occasions.

There are 22 teams in the d’Orsi Senior Trophy, shall play one complete round-robin, being 21 rounds of 16-board matches each played in one session (To be completed within two hours and twenty minutes). Play will start on Tuesday 17th September, and finish on Monday 23rd September. The eight teams with the highest Victory Points totals after the round-robin will qualify for the quarter-finals.
Canada has a good team we will be competitive.
