Mike Yuen — Mike talks about bridge

Edgar was right!

It is not often we see double game swing in team matches. It is even more rare to see a double doubled game swing.

Edgar would be proud, he always said takeout doubles are to be taken out!

Dick’s team generated a double doubled game swing to win 17 imps.

Hi Mike:

In my generation, there was only ‘one Edgar,’ so I assume your reference was to Mr. Kaplan.

Cheers,

Judy

You are right on Judy, the one and only. Cheers.

Hi Mike,

It sounded like you might have had the pleasure of knowing him ‘way back when’! Because of my late husband Norman who sat across from him for close to forty-three years, Edgar endearingly referred to me as his ‘partner-in-law.’ I have enjoyed many thrills both at and away from the table, but I must confess being in his company .. whether in his brownstone study, across the table from him (lucky me) or just as a fly on the wall listening to him discuss the last match with his teammates .. was not only delightful but so informative. IMHO, there is/was not another bridge player who had such a command of the English language and presented himself in such a charming, elegant and often humorous manner.

Cheers back at ‘ya!!

Mike,

Thought you’d get a kick out of an Internet message I happened upon today. Bobby was in touch with my old friend Jeff Rubens about one of his panel hands and I had to laugh when he referenced (though disclaiming its verbatim status) of one of Edgar’s famous Kaplanisms:

Please, partner, TAKE OUT my TO doubles!

Funny it should appear soon after your above
blog!

Cheers,

Judy
